[Log] ... It's a family

Kael Bowen's mouth pulls into a grin, as he shakes his head from side to side. His feet start carrying his towards the bar and past Lu. As he gets there, his hand extends towards Bishop, "New guy, eh? Well.. that'll work.. Don't really care what it is, so long as it's strong and kinda minty.. I'm in the mood for minty today." He nods his head up and down quickly, affirming his belief to himself. He lets out a chuckle, shaking his head at Bishop's crack and responding, "Probably a smart idea.. though if ya run into Tasha and Kat, by all means, entertain them. They're more then a riot for any occasion."

Wiping his oily hands against a blue cloth in hand, an old man climbs up the stairs from the fore corridor slowly and deliberately. When they are adequately clean of oil for his tastes, Ymir sighs happily and replaces the cloth, his now interestingly stained bandana, at the top of the flight of stairs. He notes a crowd and waves to them collectively, loosing a subdued "Yo" in their direction.

"Good grief," Josephine complains, "The man's here not five whole minutes and you're already making him serve you?" She eyes Lucinda and Kael sternly, but fondly all the same. "I thought we needed another pilot.. I suppose you do that too?" she wonders of Bishop, conversationally, with her usual warm smile, apparently not about to order a drink from someone she's just welcoming onboard. "Yo Ymir!" she waves cheerfully to the newest arrival. "Come meet the new guy."

Lucinda takes up her drink, lifting it slightly towards Bishop as way of thanks. She leaves him to the barrage of people filtering up the stairs, but such things happen when the Captain announces a cocktail hour. She drifts over to the curved window, quietly contemplating the docks outside with the music of conversation providing a pleasant backdrop.

At Kael's arrival, Bishop extends his hand to shake it in a firm grip. "Mint eh? Well I'll see what I can do." Fortunately, Aradia did say it was a well stocked bar, meaning hopefully Bish can find everything he looks for, setting to work with mixin' and what not. Sugar makes an appearance along with some kind of green powder, the smack of ice being broken and then whiskey poured into a cup and set in front of Kael after nearly a minute of work. "Let that chill until the glass is cold." He informs the man with a grin. When Josephine speaks, Bishop again finds himself chuckling, "It's quite alright Miss Josephine was it? It's my calling, and yes I actually do a little bit of flying as well. At least, I think that's what the Captain is wanting of me. I think the cooking and barkeeping is just an added bonus." At the arrival of another person, that being Ysir, Bishop nods his head in the man's direction. "What would you like to drink good sir?"

Kael Bowen's handshake is also firm in return to bishop, "Well, ya know.. Gotta get them workin' while they're young or.. something like that." Kael responds to Jo, looking back at her as the smile still pulls at his lips. He tosses a wink to Jo before starting his turn his head back towards Bishop and catching Ymir, "Hey! Ymir! Good ta see ya." He calls to the man who just walked up the stair. Finally finishing his turn he comes 'full circle' back to Bishop. His shoulders roll forward a couple times as he starts talking again to bishop, "Yeah, gotcha. Thanks, Bishop, I'll whip ya up a Kael surprise sometime.. last one I made nearly knocked me on my ass."

Ymir lets a belly laugh fly as he walks over to Bishop and extends a hand. "Miss Grace's family seems to grow every time she touches ground. How d'you do, lad, the name's Ymir Aurgelmir. They generally call me Ymir to save on the laryngitis." He seems genuinely happy to hear that the ship is getting a little more full.

"Don't let Kael make you a drink," Josephine advises Bishop, while lightly and subtly stepping on Kael's foot. "Ever. And you can call me 'Jo' or 'Jose,' if you feel comfortable doing so. ....Oh you cook too, do you?" She turns her gaze to the heavens, as if wondering 'what next.' "Next thing you know I'll be tossed out of the airlock for using more air than I'm worth," the woman sighs melodramatically.

Bishop chuckles towards Kael, "As long as it knocks me down then I'll try it, if it comes up short I'll be a bit disappointed." When Ysir approaches, Bish shakes his hand as well, "It's good to be here. Truth be told, wasn't certain what kind of reception to expect but y'all are just so hospitable." Looking to Jo, the blue eyes of Bishop twinkle as he nods, "I cook, I mix drinks, I pilot... I also speak seven languages and play the piano blindfolded. Well, the last two I actually don't but it's on my todo list before I die." The easy going words are said with his smile on his lips, making chit-chat as one might almost expect a bartender too.

"You talkin' about that blue gunk you concocted?" says Saienne to Kael as she comes up the stairs on hot on Ymir's heels. "Scary thing to see." She stands at the top of the steps a moment and scans the assembled crew, smiling lop-sidedly, and approaches the cluster including Kael and Josephine. "Ah, hell," she says to the other woman, "Ain't never goin' to happen, Josephine. I bet he don't make cake." Saienne leans forward to Bishop and holds out her hand. "Saienne," she introduces herself.

"You thought /yours/ was bad, Jo? You missed the rocket fuel I tried to get to taste good.. Woh was that a miserable failure." Kael chuckles, looking to Bishop and shrugging, "She's right though.. Shouldn't take my drinks, it looks 'bout fifty fifty for me to make a good one. Yeah? Well might have to some time." He snags the drink and starts away from the bar himself, his eyes shooting off towards the doctor before settling on a couch and making his way towards it. He turns his head and calls back over his shoulder, "'n' don't worry Jo.. You're _always_ going ta be useful to us.." He glances over to Sai, "Naw.. That stuff was tame in comparison."

Ymir tilts his head to one side. "Odd combination, lad, but I've heard more improbable than a mixologist/pilot. Ask me sometime, other than now, to tell you of the pacifist pirates of Higgin's Moon..." He trails off for a moment and seems to notice everyone else. "How are you, Jo, Kael, doctor, and..." he turns to Saienne, "uh...?"

Josephine grins. "I know you folks can't live without me," she says, touching her hand to her heart and fluttering her eyelashes at Kael. "Well, so maybe you can. But who would sing? Who would dance? Who would have the coffee ready before you even wake up?" She smiles warmly to Saienne. "Cakes are fun," she admits. "Say, Bishop, did you get a cabin assignment yet so you can get properly settled in? Oh! And I'm fine, Ymir, thanks. Had a bit of a rough morning, but nothing like a new guy with a good sense of humour to brighten the day."

Lucinda crosses her arms over her chest, her drink resting in the crux of one arm. "Ymir.." His name is her greeting for him, letting the 'r' drift off into oblivion. Josephine's lightheartedness is contagious, and a soft smile plays at the corner of the doc's mouth as she watches the group.

Bishop perks up quickly and looks at Josephine, "You're in charge of the coffee? Oh you and I are going to become fast friends then." He seems extremely happy now over the concept of coffee when it's brought up, licking his lips even before shaking his head, "Er, no. Actually, the Captain just invited me up to make a drink and then called everyone to sample them. I'm not certain what's going on from there. If she does bring me on I guess, I'd probably need to get my belongings from dirtside."

Saienne touches a hand to where her hat would be were she wearing it and grins crookedly at Ymir. "Saienne. Ain't sure myself exactly what I'm here to do. Extra pair of hands an' eyes, most like. Understudy to Kael." She pauses, and looks down through the large windows to the silent hustle of Eavesdown. "An' scarer up of business, probably. That's pretty much my only talent, if you can even call it that." She slips her hands into her pockets and rocks back on her heels.

Kael Bowen stops at the couch and looks down at it. His face squishes up a bit as he debates sitting down and then turns about, shrugging, "I'm quite alright Ymir.. Thanks for asking." He furrows his brow, his shoulders rising and falling in a slow shrug before he turns and starts to make his way towards the window. He stops, turning around and leans against the window to the outside world, looking down at his drink seeming to be examining it. He calls back to Sai, his eyes and head shifting up to look at her, "Understudy? I didn't know you could use pistols? When did that start?"

Just as Kael crosses to the window, Lu departs from it, pausing for a moment to slide her empty glass on the bar. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Bishop. I really ought to get back to my studies. If you all would excuse me?" She says in general to the gathered masses.

Ymir bows to Sai' in parody of courtly manner, holding up the proverbial broken mirror. "Pleasure, miss. You probably heard it a bit ago, but I'll repeat f'r politeness. Ymir Aurgelmir, called Ymir. I serve as chief engineer for miss Grace." He waves a hand broadly. "If you see something broken, come find and kick me, betcha I can fix it." He waves at the doctor again. "See you later, doc' Lu'. I'd like to talk to you sometime later," he calls after her.

Josephine clasps her hands together, smiling between Saienne and Kael, "Oh, I just love good, clear communication. It warms my heart so." She turns that smile to Bishop, remaining sociably near the bar. "Ah, well, she probably wants to run you by us before formally issuing a welcome, then. Assuming nobody hates you or feels violently opposed to your presence, she'll most like make an official job offer..and then we'll see about the cabin. It's all up to the Captain in the end, of course. How did she find you, anyway? You weren't around this morning and now..suddenly you are here, mixing up drinks, mingling with us crazy folks. Bye Lu! Don't study too hard..and there's some fresh milk in the cooler, if you want some."

Bishop nods towards the departing Lucinda before returning attention to Josephine. "Well, I'd been looking for a ship to sign on with for a few months now but none really caught my attention till I saw the Grace here. I approached, made chit-chat with the woman standing outside who later turned out to be the captain and well, she invited me on to mix some drinks." He pauses then looks around, "And that's how I ended up here... So far anyway. That story is far to dull, remind me to rewrite it later to involve a gun fight and some sort of high speed chase."

Lucinda crosses to the stairwell, commenting in parting. "Thank you Josephine. And you are always welcome in the Med Bay, Ymir, or I shall see you in the commons if the environment suits you more." Her long stride carries her swiftly to the stairs, her hand drifting over the railing as she descends.

Saienne scritches the back of her stubbled head with a long-fingered hand and looks discomfited for the briefest of moments. "Understudy perhaps ain't entirely what I meant," she says to the trio, her loquacity tripping her up not for the first time. "Understudy implies some ability, don't it? Apprentice, then? Novice? ... Pretender to the throne?" She grins crookedly at Kael. "An' it... din't start so much yet." A beat. "I expect I should have asked first." As Ymir greets her, she turns back to him. "Ah," she says, good-naturedly, "I'll surely come an' see you, but I ain't so much of a kicker."

Kael Bowen grins widely at Saienne, "Hey, anytime you want some help with a pistol Sai, just ask.. I'll teach ya a little." He nods quickly and then tries a sip of his drink. His eyes widen and he pulls it away, looking down at it with a smile pulling back across his face, "Hey, Bishop.. not bad. Not bad at all."

Ymir looks thoughtfully after Lucinda as she goes, before laughing and turning to Saienne "You're alright, lass. Aradia and Max're pretty good judges of character, I think. Don't think I'd welcomed you yet, so, welcome." The old man scratches at his chin for a moment before sitting cross-legged on the deck. "So, uh, where are we now? I haven't been out of the ship in a couple of days, and a lot of that I was asleep or practicing at shooting dummies..."

Josephine smiles to Bishop, because she almost always smiles, it seems. "Yeah, I had a nice long talk with Aradia myself before I ever realised she was the captain of anything. I even had the gall to ask 'do you work here?' And I forget how she replied, but I /still/ didn't know she was in charge until one of her crewmembers greeted her by title. That was on another ship, mind you. And just so you don't feel out of place, pretty much all these folks are new around here. Well, all but the Captain, her husband, her First Mate, and..well, me, I suppose. So we're still all getting to know each other. But..it seems to be a good group..a really good group." The chatty woman turns to look at the others with a smile. "Being part of this crew is more than just a job. We're like family, through good times and bad. Sometimes our lives depend on that." She pats the older engineer on his head as he sits down. "We're on Perse, Ymir. You want a pillow for your butt?"

Actively listening to Josephine's talking, Bishop nods his head and smiles when she finishes. "I'll keep that in mind. All of it. She pulled the hiding who she was stunt on me, but I'll only fall for that one time. Because now, I know who she is." Bishop grins as he reaches up to tap the side of his head to indicate where he has the knowledge. Looking at the bar, he says with a grin, "If you'll excuse me a moment? I'm going to clean up this mess before it gets worst." Then he sets to work doing just that, cleaning up quietly.

Saienne smiles a crooked smile at Ymir, and her brown eyes are warm. "Well, thank you indeed for sayin' so," she says, her gaze dipping to follow him as he sits himself on the deck. "An' I ain't been called a lass in nigh on twenty years." She chuckles to herself, low and throaty, "Although back then I ain't entirely sure it was meant as a compliment." She looks up at Josephine, and then nods at Bishop. "Ain't that the truth. I ain't hardly been here a few weeks an' it's startin' to feel like home already."

Kael Bowen slowly takes a drink from his glass, looking out over the group and just staying silent for the moment. A smile is pulling at the corner of his mouth though and he looks to be enjoying himself even if relatively deep in thought. He nods a little at Jo's speech, responding to it,"That's right.. Same thing she said when I came on board.. it's a family."

Ymir shakes his head at Jo sagely. "Only through hardship can the body become strong, and you train the body to train the mind an' soul." He scratches at one cheek for a couple of seconds. "Can't rightly remember where I heard that, prob'ly my old man. It sounds like his sort of nonsense. Only it's true."

Josephine smiles warmly to everyone present. "I'm glad you all agree," she says sincerely. "And I'm glad you're all here, too. Oh, Kael, speaking of family and closeness ....may I please try a tiny sip of your green beverage?" she wonders then, with one of her winning expressions. "Ymir, you're being silly," she informs him, lovingly.

In response to Kael's earlier offer, Sai nods thoughtfully. "I may well take you up on that, Kael. Shootin' small arms never was a particular skill, but I reckon it'd be a mite more useful here than proficiency with artillery, which was." She glances outside again, to Eavesdown, and scratches the back of her head again.
